Making an Impact with Denver Children’s Home

RevGen Brings Cheer to Denver Children’s Home

Author: Lauren Lewis

Every year, RevGen hosts a holiday volunteer event in which employees and their families come together to give back to our local community. The strong positivity and engagement that makes this event a success exemplifies our company values of Stewardship and Enjoyment. It was a privilege to be involved this year as we partnered with Denver Children’s Home (DCH), a non-profit organization that provides a comprehensive therapeutic and educational continuum of care for Denver’s abused, neglected and traumatized children and their families with mental health issues.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

On December 16th, 2017, I was greeted by my fellow co-workers with big smiles on their faces, which could not solely be attributed to holiday cheer. I could tell the group was excited to contribute to a great cause alongside friends and family.

Sarah Friedman, DCH’s Development Director, spoke at the event to provide more insight into the organization’s mission and explain how volunteer efforts truly make a positive impact for the children. She explained that in the residential program, there are five dormitories that each have a communal area and bathroom. Most children that join the residential program don’t have much when they arrive – some come with a trash bag or nothing at all.

Creating a Warm Welcome at DCH

To support these young residents, our event focused on assembling welcome bags and creating crafts to brighten up their dorms this holiday season. In preparation for the event, donations and supplies were gathered to comprise each welcome bag. Donations included essential toiletry items, bedding linens, and art supplies.

By the end of the day, approximately 40 bags were packed and ready to be taken to DCH for donation with the hope that they make the children feel more comfortable and at home in their dorms.

Thinking Beyond RevGen

In addition to assembling these welcome bags, crafting stations were set up to brighten up the home for the holidays. Glitter snowflakes and colorful Christmas trees were made into lovely string ornaments to be placed on the trees in the dorms. Unique candy cane centerpieces were also put together to serve as décor for the home’s upcoming holiday party.

It was clear that both adults and kids alike had fun making these crafts and were glad to be giving them to others to enjoy. I can easily say I was proud to take part in this event in which we thought beyond ourselves to give others a happier holiday season!
